Thanks to injection methods by URETEK geopolymers, it is possible to eliminate the drawdown of railway ballast, as well as to stabilize concrete slabs of railway crossings, tunnels, train stations, stations or depots without changing the train schedule.

The objects of railway infrastructure include not only directly sections of communication lines, but also a wide list of elements of the transport system. This includes railway bridges, tunnels, train stations and stations, depot premises, facilities for repair and maintenance of trains, etc. All of them experience regular operating loads, as well as environmental and groundwater influences.

The design of railways provides for the arrangement of a ballast layer of crushed stone or other bulk material on which a rail pair is laid. Long-term exploitation of the track leads to the fact that in some sections of the railway track, there is a draft of ballast, which changes the position of individual rails. When the subsidence of the rails exceeds the permissible value, the risk of emergency situations increases. Thanks to URETEK technology, subsidence of individual sections of the rail can be eliminated in just a few hours without dismantling the structural elements.

Railway ballast reinforcement

In order to strengthen the soil at the base of the railway track and to eliminate the drawdown of the ballast, it is not necessary to dismantle the rail pair and to add and reinforce the ballast. When using the URETEK methods, it is enough to make several injections with geopolymer resins under the ballast or into the body of the ballast prism. The gradual introduction of geopolymers will lead to the filling of all cavities and voids, and then evenly expanding geopolymer material will create the necessary vertical pressure and eliminate the subsidence of the rails.

Reinforced concrete slab stabilization

On certain sections of railway tracks, primarily at level crossings, as well as in tunnels, at railway stations, stations or depots, rails are laid on reinforced concrete slabs. It is also possible subsidence of individual plates. Often this is due to a violation in the work of drainage structures, when under the reinforced concrete erosion of the soil begins and the formation of cavities and voids.

In this case, it is necessary to strengthen the soil and stabilize the position of concrete elements. URETEK technology allows you to do this without dismantling slabs and rails by injecting geopolymers under a reinforced concrete slab. For this, two geopolymer injection technologies are used. In order to strengthen the soil at great depths under the railway track, they inject with geopolymers according to the Deep Injection method. And for direct leveling of concrete slabs, Slab Lifting technology is used.

Features of injection by geopolymers

To feed the geopolymeric material to the required depth, it is necessary to drill a well in a ballast or in a reinforced concrete coating. Injections are carried out through special tubes with a diameter of 8-14 mm, where the geopolymer is fed through hoses. The rise of reinforced concrete structures and sections of the rail track is controlled using laser levels.

It is noteworthy that the geopolymer fills voids, is structured, forms the necessary vertical pressure and gains 90% strength in just 15 minutes. This allows repairing the railway surface as quickly as possible and without violating the schedule of regular traffic.
